Review of It Happened One Night (1958) by Joe P — 06 Nov 2012
It wouldn't surprise at all me if critics hated this movie because it's so good. "It Happened One Night" seems to be almost the culimnation of the works of Chaplin meshed together in as much harmony as can be in any screwball comedy: the romance of "City Lights," the slapstick of "The Gold Rush," and the power of the social message found in "Modern Times.
" The performances of Gable and Colbert, whose opposite temprements attract, drew the blueprint for such films "Bring Up Baby," 'The Philadelphia Story" and "Adam's Rib" and the film officially launched Frank Capra into stardom as America's filmmaker.
