It Comes At Night Review.
Story: 90% - A well constructed, mysterious, and very interesting story.
Plot: 94% - A very well conducted plot that isn't too convoluted, with mysterious ambiguity throughout the film and well written characters.
Character Development: 80% - The film does a good job developing the families fear of what could be lingering on the outside of the house.
Protagonist: 89% - The protagonist of the film is Paul(the father of the family), who is well written and developed through out the film, and very likable. The film does a good job in displaying the contrast between the family and the outside world.
Antagonist: 92% - The antagonist of the film is a combination of a few things, consisting of the fear of the things of the outside world, or the disease that this family is trying so desperately to avoid, which makes for a really compelling story.
Acting: 91% - This film is incredibly well acted from the father to the son and the mother, and the other family that comes into their lives does just as good of job as them.
Cinematography: 87% - The cinematography is beautiful in achieving the dark and gloom tone that the film was going for. The cinematography and the tone match up very well, making for a very good looking film.
Visual Effects: 72% - The one thing in this film that didn't quite fit in the film was the special FX. The effects in the nightmare sequences just didn't look as real as they could have, and honestly at some instances looked a little fake, but at the same time it didn't derail from the film too much.
Score: 88% - The score for the film was very well done. It was placed appropriately in scenes that needed it and were very fitting for the tone of the film.
Sound Design: 92% - along with the soundtrack, the sound design was just as erie and creepy. It was well mixed and well placed.
Action: 90% - The sequences without dialogue and you are just trying to watch these people protect their families makes for some very intense and well directed scenes.
Tone: 93% - The tone is very consistent and well established from the beginning of the film, creating a very somber mood for the film.
Final Score: 88%.
Overall, It Comes At Night, is a well written story with great visuals, and an unsettling tone, that has many different meanings and ways of interpreting certain things. However the ambiguity of the film sometimes leaves confusion with in certain scenes, but for the most part is a great film.
