I think the film does a great job at showcasing the ever-present sense of paranoia between the two families and how the built-up tension explodes for a pretty good ending. It's the slow pace and repetitiveness shown throughout the film that makes it a drag to sit through.
And no matter how good the acting was or how good I thought the ending was, Nothing can really make up for that.
