Review of It (2017) by Vishwa J — 26 Sep 2017
With better FX and a bigger budget, It seemed to just be trying to remake what was already done, and seemed sufficient.
But when I went to watch it with those kinds of low expectations, it really blew away anything I had in mind.
It lost a half-star for not giving Tim Curry a cameo. Just kidding: the ratings were as follow:
Storyline/Plot: Excellent! I always like King's work, and the plot on its own held up really well, even if it wasn't absolutely faithful to the book.
Adaptation: More-or-less good within the format, but I would have liked to see it extend in a few places I considered important to the plot, and not actually deviate from the book. I had this same issue with the Dark Tower, because it just plain cut too much out. King's works are always best as a mini-series or even a fully-fledged series, IMO. 1/2 star loss.
Theme: Excellent, but perhaps overstated. It stepped on the action in a place or two. 1/2 star loss for that.
Content: Great.
Acting: Really excellent! I was genuinely concerned for the fears of the kids.
Direction: Superb, though I wouldn't want to be on that set, lol.
