Review of It (2017) by Christian G — 21 Sep 2017
Absolutely amazing. Much better than the miniseries that terrified me as a kid. More of the book was included this time around. The casting was brilliant, those kids brought back so many memories of those first emotions bubbling up.
The change of setting it in the 80?s completely took me back and the nostalgia of growing up in that decade really hit home. Why only 4 stars? Well, I felt that Mike Hanlon?s place in the story had been stolen from him.
He was my favorite character in the book, the one that got left behind to face and document any new terrors happening in Derry. The one that had to call everyone back, the one that DIDNT get to run away.
It broke my heart to see that the historian of the group was made to be Ben. The story of The Black Spot could be a movie on its own. It was a touching, horrific chapter in ITs history that moved me greatly and gave insight into Mikes desire to stay, he has a history with It, unlike everyone else, It has come for his family once before.
That that part was changed saddened me and therefore I took a star away. I can?t wait to see the continuation. I hope they use lesser to unknown actors myself, if it becomes a star-studded extravaganza it will pull focus from the emotional story it is.
