Review of It (2017) by Rick V — 10 Oct 2018
'It' is a great adaptation, especially because of the depiction both of individual and shared fears and trauma. The reason these kids stick together is thoughtful and real, and even in the more conventionally horror-movie moments, it manages to stay fresh and on point.
It's just such a pity that every Stephen King story, except Carrie, not adapted by Stanley Kubrick always lies prone to sappy, feel-good endings and anticlimaxes, and that in their quest for good vs.
evil, different kinds of 'good' and 'evil' are represented in such a binary way, with bullies doing the bidding of evil. This, however, seems more of a Stephen King problem than a problem with the movie, which is mostly excellent.
