Review of Irreversible (2002) by Daron S — 03 Nov 2010
I never felt so "in the movie" as I was with Irreversible, the direction & music makes it feels like a bad dream in reverse, the fact that what we are dealing with watching this film some might call gratuitous but this kind of violence happens everyday to people who don't have the option to stop their DVD players, I have never been raped but I feel now I have some understanding of what it's like after the witnessing the gruelling 9min scene, and would I seek the same kind of revenge? This are provocative question the movie raises but I'm not sure I know the intention of this film.
I hope people who deal with victims of rape from police to judges see this film to get a better understanding of the trauma that women experience every day in all parts of the world, The facts are many people turn their backs and do not want to be involved - a great sin of omission that and the punishment for rape is to lenient in many cases.
...boy have I got side tracked again...
A most powerful movie, one I don't know I can recommend.
