Review of Irrational Man (2015) by Kevin D — 06 Aug 2015
This new opus from the prolific and always interesting Woody Allen is unfortunately quite offbeat and turns out quickly to be disappointment. sure Rhode Island is magnificently shot and the film is gorgeously lighten with a heavy shade of pink all along which gives an interesting vibe to the film.
The cast is also quite excellent, Phoenix , who seems to be on a mission to play every outcast characters possible in recent years, finds here a perfect fit. Emma Stone is proving how excellent she is with her timing.
Unfortunately this film lacks a certain sharpness, focus and dramatic depth in a way, as if Allen had hesitated between comedy and drama ( this is not the first time, some of his previous films were also suffering from this).
Not completely a success but not a terrible film either... this Irrational man turns out indeed to be quite an irrational film.
