Review of Iron Man 3 (2013) by Magnus G — 20 Sep 2014
Iron Man 3 is better in many areas than its predecessor. For one, the story feels tighter and more consistent and actually sticks to one clearly defined plot. Shane Black's direction is also an improvement over Jon Favreau's haphazard approach in Iron Man 2.
However, the film is arguably even more disappointing when taking into account its role as a sequel to the first Iron Man and as the first post-Avengers Marvel film. The humour is still obnoxious and distracting, never allowing you to appreciate the characters as people or even get into the story.
The controversial twist in the film does seem like a decent concept on paper but it's executed in a really smug-faced and apathetic manner and is more likely to leave you feeling insulted rather than amused.
Here's hoping that Iron Man 4 will return to the compelling high energised plotting of the first film.
