Review of Iron Man 3 (2013) by Jacob B — 16 May 2016
Iron Man 3 pales in comparison to The Avengers and you'll either praise the plot twist or crap all over it. I didn't mind it. It subverts expectations and reminded me of a time when plot twists were more common.
Like, you know, one of the primary characters being someone's imaginary friend or the protagonists being on their home planet all along. I ain't telling their names and besides, everyone knows about these twists now.
Anyway, where was I? While, yes, Iron Man 3 lacks some of the first film's thrills, it more than compensates with great performances, amazing visual effects just like any MCU movie and brilliant action sequences.
It also has a good amount of jokes, as well. Not Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man-type funny but there's still some witty dialogue that ought to earn a chuckle or two out of the audience. I don't get it, why people consider this movie "bad".
Sure, most third entries are when the quality begins declining. And, yes, it's not as good as Avengers as I previously pointed out. But come on, stop acting like a bunch of butthurt DC fanboys. Not that there's anything wrong with DC aside from all that false advertising in Suicide Squad and Martha in BvS.
Phew, good thing I just happen to be a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (except maybe in the first half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s first season and 55% of Iron Fist). Otherwise, I would've mercilessly ripped this film to pieces.
It's not as bad as some make it out to be. I enjoyed it. You did your best, Shane Black, and at least you know enough people liked it so that it could get a Saturn Award introduced in that year. You've earned my respect.
