Spoilers Ahoy!

The first act started out wonderfully. The two interconnecting stories sucked you in and it was genuinely creepy up until Mia got her mouth/voice stolen. Then things just sort of went unnecessarily pear shaped. Especially considering that I could to see the solution to the problem from the beginning. This is a movie about 'stories' coming to life so why in the name of hell wouldn't you just not write yourself out of it! Just saying. No need to angst if you can just very nicely write anything like "and then Hollowface pissed off" that would solve everything.

I didn't see it coming that the two interconnecting stories would end up being the father's stories. I guess that's why the movie was so careful to never show you the grandmother's face. I was also wondering why the spanish part of the story seemed so dated in comparison to the Clive Owen story. Nicely done. Bonus points for the inclusion on Daniel Bruhl in this movie, who I have now seen act in German and Spanish and I eagerly await the next language I get to see him in,.

I was really rather put out that it was a literal monster than a real one, especially considering how great the first act was. The whole parents love their kids and will do whatever they need to was a great message and all but just sort of took away from everything too. It was just creepy jump scares and then where I should have been impressed about the big reveal everything just was like 'meh'.

I'm glad that they didn't implicate that the dad was doing it to her on purpose, I was seriously waiting for the cops to suggest that. It was just a bit of a letdown over all.
