Review of Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999) by Samantha S — 23 Jul 2009
Good made-for-cable biopic with a very strong lead in Halle Berry. Dorothy Dandridge wanted to be her own, strong person but had a blind spot for the men in her life. She was ill-suited to first husband Harold Nicholas, who had no patience for her fragile sexuality and while the affair with Otto Preminger during "Carmen" temporarily made her strong, she crashed abruptly when he dumped her at the film's end.
Her push for equal rights as a lady of color is humiliating to watch. Sad story of a talented, beautiful woman who was eventually swallowed up by the system.
