Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Todd P — 27 Apr 2014
I felt like this film started very slowly and took a long time to get going. It also felt a bit clumsy early on. Maybe midway through or later is when it began picking up steam as it transitioned more smoothly between past and present and Eddie Vedder's tunes better complimented the story as it unfolded later in the film. The ending visually and emotionally was quite powerful, as well as the important message that the main character learned the hard way and a little too late. So the first half or so of the film was a bit weak, but the second half with it's potent ending was a very different "story." If nothing else, the film can be a great lesson in the dangers of isolationism by showing partly how egocentric it can actually be and not as romantic as the youthful lone wolf journey may sound. While making one's way on a ferocious spirit of adventure and communion with nature can be incredibly rewarding, I've learned from a 30-year avid outdoorsman and my own nature ventures, it is best when shared with others, as the adventure itself can be a great connection vehicle.
"HAPPINESS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED".
