Review of Interiors (1978) by Jason C — 20 Jul 2008
I read an interview recently in which Allen expressed a desire to remake this film. For me, the only real contention with 'Interiors' seems to be its status as a much underrated gem; the influence of Bergman over Allen's work is never more evident than here.
It's a straight drama, bereft of the quirky humour and non-linear narrative lines that characterize earlier classics such as 'Annie Hall' (perhaps one reason why I have heard it referred to as 'dull' or 'tepid').
However, what it does display is a growing maturity that is perhaps less prevelant in his earlier works. For me, an unheralded classic.
