Review of Instinct (1999) by Pieter-Jan V — 04 Dec 2008
Incredible. Moving. Touching. INSPIRING. Amazing. Phenomenal. Outstanding. Motivating. Stunning. Meaningful. Stimulating. Intellectual. Thought-provoking. There just aren't enough words or enough space here for HALF the words to describe the remarkable exceptional-ness of this film. It's...just one of the VERY best movies ever.
"What have you lost?".
"My control".
"No...what have you lost?".
"My freedom..".
"NO!! One more try...what have you lost?".
"My illusions.".
That right there is incredible. There is so much about LIFE in this movie, so much that really goes unnoticed by probably most viewers, who are just there to watch another "gripping thriller", being entertained and not seeing the deeper intrinsic values and lessons here. My favorite scene (ok, ONE of them..there's too many) in this is the very end...when Caulder finally lets go of everything and just...stands in the rain. It's BEAUTIFUL. Everything he was taught by Powell. Just amazing.
