This film wanted to be the 1960s "All About Eve", but it ends up being more on the silly end of showbiz dramas (ie. "Showgirls" or "Mommy Dearest" though not as wonderfully awful as those films).
Nice slick production value and a glamorous cast make this trashy fun.
