Review of Inherent Vice (2014) by Rod E — 25 Jan 2015

I have to say that I was incredibly disappointed with Inherent Vice. I think Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the great modern filmmakers and have enjoyed all of his movies and some of them I consider favorites.

Eagerly anticipating this and thinking that the trailer looked great, I saw this and just thought that it was aimlessly overlong and incredibly dull. A couple of people in the theater even passed out and snored throughout the padded out running time.

This is Anderson's worst. There were definitely things in the movie that worked, such as the prolonged drug tone, cinematography, the soundtrack, and Martin Short's small role but that doesn't equal high praise.

If anything it just means that this movie doesn't suck that much.
