Review of Infernal Affairs (2002) by Tim F — 16 Jan 2011
This movie is about huge inside operations, mainly through the eyes of two men, each on different sides, longing for their own redemption. We carefully see how two boys end up where they are now and how they are able to fit in so deep, almost adapt into enemy territory.
This movie is very realistic and tense, also with the usage of meaningfull scenes, speech and even telling the story. Also emotion is a very special thing, As a western man I was suprised by the way these guys handle things.
For instance the music is very beautifull, and we would say not appropriate, but here it gives another dimension I think. It's a quite heavy story and we don't even know the background, you just see they're having a hard time.
As for acting, this is sublime. For some this isn't the big action flick they were looking for, there are just above and around four major action scenes I think, It's more about the story and how it turns through actions of the other side.
There is also a nice eye for detail. For me the cultural differences are vast and interesting! I for one did not get the scotisch themed funeral at the end (?). Great!
