Review of Incredibles 2 (2018) by Matthew P — 14 Jun 2018
Great movie but I have a gripe. I felt the balance of power between Elastigirl and Mr I in the first movie was great. I feel that Bob and Dash have had their powers and intelligence nerfed here, presumably to make Helen look better. The role reversal between Bob and Helen was great, loved it, but I think there is something to the SJW argument against this film.
The Incredibles should be about the family, being at their most powerful when they are together. But even then I get the feeling Bob is the odd man out and only doing heavy lifting (and not as well as he should), when they should all be at their most 'Incredible' together.
Its subtler than sledgehammer Star Wars SJW, but I feel it's still there and I just don't think its needed. Does anyone think Elastigirl from the first movie was overshadowed by Mr Incredible when she was onscreen? I didn't think so, she was awesome. Make her the primary character of the movie and reduce Bob's 'hero time' by all means, but don't erode Bob's heroics or capability during his screen time. If I didn't get that feeling then this movie would have been damned close to perfect.
Jack Jack is hilarious and the movie overall is fantastic, well worth watching on a big screen. Worth it for Jack Jack vs Raccoon alone in fact. Was elated to see Edna has still got the right stuff.
Villain was not as good as Syndrome.
