Review of Incendies (2010) by Debra R — 03 Jun 2011
A son's and a daughter's journey into their mother's painful and chequered past (chequered with mistakes and misfortunes) after her death. They find that there was a lot more to their mother than they knew - would it have been better if they didn't know? Their mother, fiesty and fiery as she was, had been through too much to actually say anything to her children while she was alive.
It is with much tribulation that her children find out the truth, and the daughter, a mathematician, is faced with the possibility of 1 + 1 being equal to 1. A great film, if one can take their mind away from the politics of it all, which I thought were a bit one-sided.
In the last 15 minutes though, you might find yourself hyperventilating from the reality of it all. A must-watch.
