Review of In the Mood for Love (2000) by Yalek H — 16 Aug 2009
The best Wong Kar Wai's movie. It is poetically beautiful to tell a story of love, how to live and breakthrough the pressure internal and external. The cinematophic forms from Christopher Doyle's assisted the story telling.
The door frames in the apartment, the walls, the narrow corridors, stairs, the mini size working desk create all the constrainted environments to Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung. Even in Li Mui Wan's(Tony Leung) office, the light is particularly low and you feel like he is working (living) in a very tight environment and lack of space to breath.
The high tight collars of the "cheng sham" of Maggie Cheung, restrain her movements and you can even feel her exhaustion from her tired and tight expressions. Even the smoke from the cigrette can speak for the mood of the actor in the movie.
