Review of In the Loop (2009) by Cory B — 12 Jun 2010
I heard it played like 'The Office' and 'Arrested Development,' and coupled with a Best Screenplay nod, I had to check it out. I'm afraid it was not my bag at all, and barely got through it.
It had a few funny one-liners, but it just wasn't realistic enough and too serious to be laugh-out-loud hilarious; it wasn't even close. The performances were way to over the top to be lauded, and the story was so hard to follow.
It's elitist British comedy, manufactured so that Americans can say 'oh my gawd, 'In The Loop' is deliciously funny; I laughed so much because I'm so smart. I guess the American in me just wanted to see someone get kicked in the balls or slip on a fucking banana peel.
Thumbs down.
