Review of In the Loop (2009) by Mark B — 10 Dec 2014
In The Loop is a unique political satire film in the vein of BBCs comedy 'The Thick of It'. It is a full on assault at the international politics and relations between the US and the UK in the build up to the Iraq War.
Featuring some of the cast from 'The Thick of It' it stays with the same satirical style and each character definitely brings something to this film, especially Malcolm Tucker (Peter Capaldi) who was absolutely hilarious. His character is without a doubt one of the funniest I've seen and comes up with some memorable lines. I also think that Tom Hollander did a great job as Simon Foster MP as he gets stuck right in the middle and used as a pawn by each side.
I also think that Steve Coogan's minor role in this was hilarious, while Foster is in the middle of a career meltdown and discussions about going to war, Coogan is still bothering him about his mothers garden wall!
Very funny and one film I'd definitely recommend, even if you're from across the pond.
