Review of In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007) by Benjamin K — 28 Sep 2007
A good cast, keen direction and great cinematography cannot save this cliche-ridden and totally unoriginal indie from mediocre-ville. I really wanted to like this, but the rave reviews are a sad reflection of the state of indie cinema today.
All the comparisons to Woody Allen and, especially, "Before Sunrise/Sunset" are ridiculous wishful thinking - this is a routine indie, nothing more, and certainly nothing remotely special. There's talent on display, but it's just not the sum of its parts, I guess.
Sigh.
