Review of In Fear (2013) by Brandon M — 26 Jun 2014
Surprisingly suspenseful thriller that benefits from it's bare bones story and sells the tension through it's maze-like setting. For a first-time director, this is quite an accomplishment, with stunning cinematography and an ever-looming sense of dread.
The best moments are in the first act, with the mystery still intact, but once the OBVIOUS bad guy enters the picture, it loses a lot of ground and you're left a little bored. There are some great, low-key scares and a truly tragic event near the end, but overall it wasn't as frightening as I had hoped.
There's some writing issues and of course the characters don't always make the smartest decision, but that's the horror/thriller genre!
