Review of In Bruges (2008) by Lewis E — 28 Mar 2013
Two hitmen are sent to Bruges after a 'job' and told to await instructions, however they begin to wonder if there is a hidden agenda afoot. Starts off slow with nothing happening, just them two wlaking around Bruges.
It tries to rely on Colin Farrell's Irish charm and constant swearing to create comedy but it just ends up being quite irritating. Changes after a phone call from the boss, Harry (Ralph Fiennes), who sounded like he was fresh out of a Guy Ritchie film and had me cracking up, by far the best scene of the film.
From then on the main drama kicks in, stuff actually happens, Farrell and Gleeson become more likeable and Fiennes livens it up when he comes on screen. Reckon they gambled with this film being completely set in a boring medieval area of Bruges but they managed to produce something good.
