Review of In Bruges (2008) by Hari A — 15 Jun 2014
Awe inspiring performances by Brendan Gleeson, Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes in this story about guilt. Set in a fairytale Bruges, subtle and adept performances combined with a stellar storyline makes this movie a beauty. Dark, hilarious at times but still thought provoking.
Every single character who has taken screen time has an important part in the movie and fits perfectly. Be it the midget or the hotel owner or the "puff" who gets shot in the eye with a blank. Kudos to Martin McDonagh for the parable climax depicting purgatory in Colin Farrell's last moments is absolutely stunning.
The music needs special mention. Carter Burwell's score is so magical that it weaves the story and the feeling together with minimal dialogue. Magical, magical movie.
