Review of In a Better World (2010) by Simon P — 12 Jan 2012
A really stellar film, and the latest in a line of exceptional pieces from director Susanne Bier. In a Better World is a writhing and taut drama that is full of moments that are both emotional and tense.
This film is made by a commendable performance from William Jøhnk Nielsen as Christian, the distraught, angsty child gone Timothy McVeigh. The ethical boundaries of all the main characters are tested and broken in some cases, in what is a very deserving Oscar winner.
While there isn't a lot of ground-breaking material here, the individual parts of In a Better World, from the acting to the cinematography to the score, collaborate to create an unyielding and frightening film that will grasp you until the final credits.
