Review of In a Better World (2010) by Kong M — 10 Nov 2012
The reviews are correct - This is like a Danish version of typical Coen Brothers' work, or in other words a film touching on the dark sides of humanity in a very dramatic way but failed as it manages to be out of touch with reality.
The first half of the movie was manageable, but when the (arc) story of the troubled children reached its climax, the actions taken by the adults and society to address the situation as a whole seemed unrealistic, and made a rubbish out of the rest of the movie.
And to think that the law let a troubled child get away without putting him/her into psychotherapy or something. I also didn't like the ending of the African story arc, because the 'villain' appeared so stupid in the end.
This is probably one of the recent Foreign Oscar film winners, that I would say totally undeserving.
