Review of In a Better World (2010) by Margarita S — 23 Jan 2012
This is an ambitious film with a lot going on to the point where it can sometimes be overwhelming. It walks a very fine line between adequately developing the story through its characters and using its characters for a higher purpose â" as emblems of conflicting ideologies on the use of violence.
Tricky. What ultimately holds the movie together are the multi-dimensional, emotionally charged performances. This is certainly a think piece. With all of its moving elements, it is best appreciated by dissecting it into individual parts, as opposed to grappling to intellectually box it into one single overarching ideology.
