Review of Imperium (2016) by Krista L — 12 Sep 2016
This is a topic with incredible potential for compelling and thought provoking cinema. I was really hoping for a nuanced perspective similar to American History X. Instead what the movie delivers is just a straightforward, predictable, plodding story of "White Nationalism is Bad". The societies and community that Nate infiltrates are portrayed as evil with no attempt to give the characters inhabiting them credit or humanity. They are the bad guys the characters are stupid and violent. The leaders portrayed as cowards, sellouts and incompetents.
At the end of the day I don't want a movie to beat me over the head with its message. I want to think when I watch it, not be told what to think by it.
Radcliffe was mostly entertaining if a little bit flat; the presentation and screenplay leaves much to be desired.
