Review of Imaginaerum (2012) by Scott S — 12 Sep 2013
I was quite sceptical when I started watching this, not knowing what to expect from a film made by musicians. What I wasn't expecting was to be in tears by the end of it. The plot isn't always clear throughout the film, but it's subject defines it so, throwing you around to unknown places, and only at the end does it all become clear again, just as it did for Tom.
The acting by some was a bit wooden, which you can expect from a low-budget film, but it wasn't enough to stop me from being sucked right in and riding the roller-coaster too. At first I thought it was just a film glorifying Nightwish, and now I'm ashamed that the thought ever crossed my mind.
It's strength is easily the soundtrack, obviously, but it's stirking visuals and touching character exploration had me sobbing. Amazing.
