Review of Imaginaerum (2012) by Silas H — 23 Sep 2013
If there ever was a movie that had everything- a great storyline, a.
Masterful score, and a world that just drew you in- it is Imaginaerum. You.
Follow the story of an old man named Tom, and his daughter Gem. As Gem lives.
Her discovery and her father's story in a more reverse way, Tom is suffering.
From dementia. He has to relive everything from when he was a child,.
Experiencing most of his life's memories, in an effort to come back to the.
Real world.
From the moment the story begins, it draws you commpletely into Tom's mind.
I know for me, the first time I watched it, there was no way to look away.
Not for the fact that you want to know if he is able to fight his dementia,.
But of the way the metaphors in the story work. Tom is lost in the beginning.
Of the film, and because the main plot revolves around him, you are lost as.
Well, so you keep watching, to find out more aboout what is happening. You.
Get to see what innocence truly means, how it is lost, and how faith is.
Restored- a little too late.
The score was originally an album composed by the Finnish band known as.
Nightwish. Which in and of itself, was already one of their best (when.
Anette Olzon was the front-runner for the band), but it lent itself.
Beautifully to the film. Even when the band itself was seen playing in the.
Film kind of as if they were in a concert, it never detracted from the.
Overall story- nor did it really add to it. Most of the songs from the album.
Are either used as the score, or referenced in some part of the movie. There.
Were also some new songs added and used.
When you watch the movie, and then listen to the soundtrack again later, the.
Lyrics all of a sudden make more sense. Perhaps because there is now a.
Context to fit them in to, or they had created the album with the movie.
Specifically in mind. Either way, they don't just seem like they were random.
Words strung together to make a song anymore. They were lyrics written by a.
Man, whose mind is slowly being lost to this world of fantasy- from the.
Moment his father dies, escalating when he loses his wife and band.
Overall, I would give this movie a 10/10. There's no doubt in my mind that.
This is the greatest movie I have ever watched. I would recommend it to.
Anyone- insist even- whether or not they like musicals. There is so much.
Emotion that just can't be described. I am certain that if this film had the.
Chance to hit all the major theatres- we could change the world.
