Review of I'm Still Here (2010) by Dean R — 02 Oct 2010
Rating: 3 out of 5 - A masterpiece or a waste of time... hard to tell.
This documentary on the transition of Joaquin Phoenix is a complete bizarre to watch.
I don't know the aim of this documentary but if this was to manipulate the world of "Celebrity" and show it's true colours, then this film is a masterpiece.
If this is just a actor's account of free fall into disaster, then it's a tough film to watch!
While I am not going to spoil any elements of this film, you are pondering through the film with the thought..
"If this is a joke.. Why?".
"If this is not a joke... Why?".
It's hard to tell if this is a hoax or real, but one thing it does highlight is how a "celebrity" is treated when he makes a mockery of the "system".
Make no mistake, Joaquin takes everyone on a ride, the viewers, the journalists, the TV hosts.. everyone.
As one reviewer wrote "If this was a hoax, then Joaquin's performance is one of the best he has ever seen".
I tend to agree!
