Review of Ikiru (1952) by Nick M — 28 Apr 2008
A man, diagnosed with stomach cancer and given 6 months to live, comes to the realization that he has not lived a day in his life. it can be dreadfully paced, overly sentimental, and showing of it's age. however flawed it may be, it still resonates with you for long after you see it.
In what is in my opinion one of the most moving ending sequences in all of cinema, the main character sits on a swingset in the park he has transcended the city's beaurocracy to create, singing a song. he has given his life a sense of happiness and meaning, and is ready to die, and those of us witness to it have to ask ourselves if we can do the same.
