The provocative tale of a man who has worked all his life. Realizing he has not lived until faced with death, he tries to figure out what it means to live.

It begs us to wonder why we work at all. What do we work towards? Why do we do anything? Are we here to pass the time?

This is a very thoughtful film in its probing of that age-old question: why are we here?

A classic Kurosawa film questioning an aspect of humanity. Easily worth a good watch.

I bet if they made an American remake it'd be Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, the Wilson brothers and John C Reilly with Will Ferrell screaming angrily about how the doctor lied to him about having stomach cancer.
