Review of Ikiru (1952) by Agniva D — 31 Jul 2010
One of Kurosawa's greatest films questions on the purpose of living and the redundant cycle of the bureaucratic system for doing something new. It shows how apathetic people are unless something happens to them to shake them out of it, then they do something dramatic to be remembered as an example to be emulated in the future.
It follows the life of a civil servant to breaks out of his apathetic yet famous life as a 30 year old office veteran to do something new, when he discovers he is terminally ill. His deeds are an example for future emulation, to shake the redundant system.
But is it enough? See this great masterpiece to find the hidden questions about life and the purpose of it.
