Review of If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) by B D — 11 Jan 2019
Regina King: Mother of the Year.
Barry Jenkins' followup to 'Moonlight' is a beautifully shot and wonderfully acted tale of injustice and trying to bear it.
And while the movie is also a love story I found the scenes focused exclusively on Tish and Fonny courting each other to often grind the film to a halt both narratively and emotionally. For me the soul of this film was in the larger family dynamic and I desperately missed those characters when they weren't on screen.
