Review of if.... (1968) by Tad T — 27 Jul 2008
Anderson's widely acclaimed film acutely captures the stultifying boarding school milieu to perfection, with its petty cruelties, uncaring adult figures and arcane rituals. When Mick Travis leads a guerilla uprising it seems the only possible response to the closed system of the school and its hierarchies.
Full of charming yet unlikeable protagonists, it is a wry and accurate reflection of the process of elite socialisation and the limited horizons of even those who want to break out of its endless cycle.
