Some powerful scenes, to be sure, but it just starts to meander and meander halfway through with the surrealist scenes. (that, and the ending just confused the hell out of me as to what the movie's message was supposed to be.).
Just a decent period piece, nothing more. if this makes me a philistine, fine...
