Review of Identity (2003) by Ryan S — 30 Aug 2010
I've heard a lot of hating on this movie, especially the ending, and I don't understand that. The movie itself is decent, but it's nothing that really stands out... until the ending. Everything changes when the ending comes and it becomes a completely different movie and just makes it so much better.
People have said the movie is good UNTIL the ending, but I think the opposite is true. Without the ending it's just another thriller/mystery where a bunch of people get killed, with the ending it's something completely different and something that truly makes you wonder what the hell is going on.
Ironically enough, I predicted this ending... as a joke, that's how outrageous and shocking it was that I thought of it, but didn't think it would happen because it would have completely changed the movie and that's what it did.
There isn't just one twist ending either, it's like a twist within a twist within a twist and you end up questioning everything at the end. The last twenty minutes, or whatever it is, not only makes this movie watchable, because it's watchable before that for the cast and it is pretty enjoyable, if formulamatic, but the formula is thrown out the window when that twist comes and that makes it just an awesome movie.
This twist is outrageous, ridiculous and jaw-dropping... and I love it.
