Review of Ichi the Killer (2001) by Sanfr P — 17 Jun 2008
Wonderfully explicit and cartoonishly violent with a sense of black humor only Takeshi Miike can deliver, Ichi the Killer is a twisted and deranged work of frantic madness about Yakuza violence and power struggles.
amidst it all is Kakihara, seeking to find the man who killed his mentor he admired, the psychotic and sadistic Ichi, who Kakihara feels is the only one who can dish out the pain he lusts to experience so much.
Tadanobu Asano is wonderful as the blond-haired scar-cheeked Kakihara and never lets down in his over the top performance. Not for everyone except those who can handle the deranged world of ultra-violent manga based films.
