Review of Ichi the Killer (2001) by Eclectic E — 04 Jan 2009
Miike always manages to pick material that pushes the envelope, and this one is no different. It may not feature a hooker being thrown off a roof, the longest cocaine line conceivable or the torture of a relative innocent with razor wire, but there's plenty of hilarious gore to help push the average viewer past the language barrier, and that's a feat in and of itself.
It had to have something other than the standard gangster script, and it certainly succeeded there.
