Review of Ichi the Killer (2001) by Lilly W — 19 Feb 2011
Funny, in a bizarre and disutrbing kind of way. There is an underbelly of society message here, or a play on over stimulation maybe? Hard to tell, and best not to over analyze. Ichi the Killer is a bloody good time.
Not a great budget and some of the close up crying, screaming or staring off into space scenes will grate on you as the movie tries to hammer in the feelings the characters are experiencing. But it is one of a kind and filled with some great images.
If you like the over the top blood spray of Japaneses cinema then this one, continuity errors and all is a must see. Plus it's been released on Netflix, so it really won't cost you anything.
