Review of Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006) by Chick W — 17 Sep 2011
In this instalment of the series Manny, Diego and Sid are still together after their adventures from the first movie. Life is going well until the animals all start to notice that their homes are melting! A thaw is going on and it's coming fast.
So the herd hits the road, trying to reach a spot where there is rumoured to be a boat that will carry them to salvation. Manny is doubly worried because everybody keeps saying he's the last of his kind.
But lo and behold, on their journey to the boat the trio stumble across another woolly mammoth named Ellie! The only problem is she was raised by possums . . . and thinks she IS a possum. Ellie and her two "brothers", Crash and Eddie join the trek, but things are not all buttercups and daisies.
Manny and Ellie butt heads right off the bat, but as their adventures expand they finally come to love each other. But time is running out, the water is getting closer, and making things worse are two prehistoric sea creatures that were released in to the wild when the ice encasing them finally melted.
Will everybody be able to reach safety in time? I really liked this movie, and I'm really glad to see James did too! He picked it because of the picture on the back, of the squirrel who's always chasing the acorn throughout these movies.
That little critter comes on the screen and James squeals with laughter, it's quite funny to behold! I really liked the plotline in this one, this issue of a meltdown is obviously something animals of the age would have had to deal with at some point.
I also really liked the sea creatures bringing the danger level even higher in this movie, they were great. And of course the movie was really funny, I love Ray Romano, just hearing his voice say anything makes me laugh.
The additions of Queen Latifah and Sean William Scott to the voice talent pool was pretty cool as well.
