Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Anderson G — 09 Mar 2018

"I, Tonya" is one of the great misconceptions of Oscar 2018. Choosing to tell the story of the American skater Tonya, a controversial sportswoman with family and personal problems, but one of the best of its time, the film takes this story and prefers to put in a black humor perspective, in the best "Fargo" style, the script mixes the real story with actors' testimonies, with narration and even breaking the fourth wall, or we have a mix of features, a mixture that works, with a fabulous set, beautiful photography, and a great, vibrant soundtrack that combines too much with the movie, the editing and mixing of the film are also great, just like the choreographies and performances, to which we have a first big highlight to Alisson Janney, who is a highlight of the film, his performance is so sincere that you feel his small nuances, of anger, contempt and simulation of love, Sebastian Stan also, is comically great, like Margot Robbie, who does very well in the sports scenes, but sins in the dramatic scenes. "I, Tonya" talks about a lot of things, domestic violence, abuse, abusive relationship, overcoming, ambition, character, and the movie does that using wonderful humor, but sometimes the movie tries to pass a dramatic charge, and it's I think Tonya is a great movie, better than at least half of the nominees for the best film of 2018, unfortunately I've been half-way around.
