Review of I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) by Denise O — 21 Jan 2012
It's not the greatest comedy around but still worth a viewing. Unashamedly open in its gay tones and bravo for tackling such a subject. Jim Carrey is back to his funny self without trying too hard as he did so in many films. A great performance as well from Ewan McGregor as this film couldn't had been easy filming.
Jim Carrey plays Steven Russell, a former cop, who finally comes out of the closet after years of being married. He soon starts to realise he has a talent to hustle people and companies out of huge amounts of money. After finally being caught and going to prison he meets the love of his life, Phillip Morris. After being released, Russell pretends to be a lawyer and Morris is released early so they can start the rest of their lives together. Unfortunately Steven Morris cannot stop lying and continues being a conman. Will this continuous lying lose Steven Russell the love of his life or will he start on a new path to redemption before he loses Phillip Morris for good?
