Review of I, Daniel Blake (2016) by Gavin S — 22 Oct 2016
As a film I don't see how 'I, Daniel Black' could be bettered. But then, it's much more than just another film. It's intended to, and should, be part of a debate about what is happening in this country, about how institutions that were set up to help people have been turned against them and how citizens are being turned into serfs.
It made me feel very angry. If my blood didn't boil, it was at least simmering throughout. But the inhumanity of the system was balanced by the the affectionate portrayal of the human relationships between the central characters.
It's important for everyone to watch this, and talk about it, and understand the reality it relates to and do something, whether small or large, to change that reality.
