Review of I Am Love (2010) by Darcy L — 01 Dec 2010
Tilda Swinton impresses with her multi-lingual ability in this Italian-language film about a dysfunctional Italian family that is tragically victimized by their desires and secrets.
This film plays out like Russian or Shakespearean tragedy and is filled with terrific images and intense performances. Being a European film, the sex scenes are bit too gratuitious, but definitely fit the story being told. This is clearly not a film that could be made in America, and that's not a bad thing.
All does not end well for this Milano familia --- but it is a nice portrait of modern day desires meeting traditional family values, Italian style!
