Review of Hush (2016) by Grant H — 11 Aug 2016
Brilliant movie that was suspenseful and fulfilling. While the trope is covered (slasher/serial), we often don't find a protagonist who is disadvantaged from their killer, who is deaf and mute. She is forced to figure out a way to survive when the killer cuts the power and taunts her outside the house (she's in the woods). Nothing works, from escape to distraction, and even the neighbors getting involved who die.
Though we never find out why the killer is doing it, the focus is on the play between survival, dying, and outsmarting the antagonist. In the end, she makes the hardest choice, and almost loses at the last second, but the movie gives a great resolution that is satisfying. Both Katie Siegel and John Gallagher Jr give great, believable performances in their roles.
